Learning more about Tarot readings
Tarot cards have existed for centuries, in fact, since the late 14th century. At this time, the cards were mostly used for games. It was not until the 18th and the 19th centuries that people began to associate mysticism with the romantic symbols painted on the cards. The art of Tarot readings was born. Since then, people have relied on the divination, or the reading of the cards, for enlightenment.
Tarot readings have evolved greatly over the years, as we are evolving too. The Tarot readings are adapting in the same way that we are adapting to our new world. However, there are some established interpretations that have survived.
For many enthusiasts of tarot readings, the pictograms on the card are just as important as the placement of the card. As a rule, the person asking for the interpretation (sometimes called querent or seeker) cuts and chooses the cards to be played out. However, it is the reader who spreads out the cards and interprets them. Reverse placements in tarot readings are given special emphasis because they usually signify the complete opposite of what the card means. For instance, a card that means the arrival of good fortune may be flipped over in reverse; this means that the seeker may be headed towards financial misfortune
Other common interpretations of tarot readings include the popular major arcane characters such as:
- The Fool, or the Jester
Symbolizes the untapped potentials of life. Often, the Fool is used as a metaphor for life itself: unpredictable, in some ways innocent and often foolish. In all instances, the Fool is considered a positive symbol for the seeker, usually denoting joy or contentment. In tarot readings, a Fool can also signify a sudden or abrupt change in the seeker’s life, but that the change is something to look forward to.
- The Magician
symbolizes the natural, creative ability in each of us. In order to tap into this, you need to develop your skills by being more disciplined. In tarot readings, the Magician’s card can go two ways:
- You need to focus on your life, career or family life – or wherever creativity is needed the most. If, (according to the cards) your future is not yet clear, you need to hone your talents further, by dedicating more time to harnessing your creativity.
- If (according to the cards) your course is already set and you are at a crucial junction in your life, the Magician card signifies the need to act now.
- The Empress
Also considered as Gaia in pop culture tarot. She personifies everything good about motherhood and the power of woman. She is the ultimate pictogram of the life-giving ability of the womb and the nurturing intensity of a woman’s bosom. Additionally, in many tarot readings, the Empress denotes the arrival of material wealth and financial influence – a little something that you should share with others. Needless to say, this card is always greatly anticipated by seekers.
